Selected Projects
Stourhead Restaurant & Shop, Wiltshire

In 1998, the National Trust decided to have a new, purpose-built restaurant and shop at Stourhead. The brief called for environmentally responsible design, with an emphasis on natural lighting and ventilation, incorporating heat-responsive roof vents. The building also has underfloor heating, solar-powered hot water and rainwater recycling. In August 2000, Judith was appointed to manage the project through the detailed design and construction stages, achieving a target opening date of Easter 2002.

Dyrham Park West Garden Project

Developing proposals for Dyrham Park’s West Garden project required the careful development of a brief written in consultation with the property team. There were a number of constraints to take into account. The mansion, the garden, parkland and several individual garden features are Listed by Historic England. The garden contains extensive buried archaeology dating from the medieval period onwards. A number of detailed surveys paved the way to developing the design proposals and seeking planning consents.

Downside Monastery Library, Somerset

Downside Abbey has the largest monastery library in Britain. The library and archive have been collected over a period of 400 years. Since 1970, these have been housed in a building designed by Francis Pollen. By 2012 the building was suffering leaks and poor internal environmental conditions, presenting the risk that the library and archive could deteriorate. Judith was appointed to manage the development stage of a Heritage Lottery Funded remedial project.
